Pierre Desreumaux

Gastroenterologist, hepatologist, hospital practitioner and Professor

Learn more
Director of the Inserm Research Unit on the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel diseases Professor Pierre Desreumaux is a gastroenterologist, hepatologist and hospital practitioner in the Gastroenterology Department of the Claude Huriez University Hospital of Lille, and Professor at the Institut Universitaire de France. He is Director of the Inserm Research Unit on the pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel diseases.

Professor Pierre Desreumaux is also the President and Founder of DigestScience (Research Foundation for Digestive System and Nutrition Diseases) and a member of AFA (Overcoming Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis).

He is also Founder of the Intestinfo care network which is dedicated to IBD, and Founding Director of the Thematic Center for Research and Care in Lille: IBD Research Center.

Professor Pierre Desreumaux is an international specialist in Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and his work earned him the Inserm Research Prize in 2005.

Project with KitoZyme

Professor Pierre Desreumaux’s project with KitoZyme aims to highlight the anti-inflammatory and/or analgesic properties of two ingredients developed by KitoZyme (chitosan and chitin-glucan from Aspergillus niger) on experimental models of colitis and intestinal nociception. In order to realize this, two pilot preclinical studies (animal experiments) will be conducted in collaboration with intestinal biotech development with a view to evaluating the effect of these ingredients and elucidating their mechanism(s) of action.

Vincent Gerbaux

Oenologist Microbiologist

Learn more
Vincent Gerbaux is in charge of the IFV project "Technoferm" Vincent Gerbaux is an Oenologist Microbiologist. In 1985, he joined the ITV (Technical Institute of Vine and Wine, now called IFV French Institute of Vine and Wine). Three years later he joined Burgundy.

Vincent Gerbaux is in charge of the IFV project named “Technoferm” and gathers studies regarding the control of fermentations (alcoholic and malolactic) and the control of microbiological alterations. His work on lactic acid bacteria and yeasts has led to the development, in partnership with producers, of original biomass, which is now offered to the viticultural profession.

Project with KitoZyme

At the same time, the work on the alterations has made it possible, in particular, to better understand the yeast Brettanomyces and to study new methods for enumeration in wines (flow cytometry) and for cell proliferation control. As such, chitosan is an alternative or a possible complement to the use of the classic and highly discussed sulfiting.

Marco Ventura

Professor of General Microbiology

Learn more
Marco Ventura is Associate Professor at the University of Parma, Italy. Professor of General Microbiology, Laboratory of Probiogenomics, Department of Life Sciences, University of Parma, Italy

In 2003, Marco Ventura received his PhD in Natural Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. He subsequently performed postdoctoral research work at the Dept. of Microbiology, National University of Ireland, Cork (Ireland) before joining the faculty at the University of Parma in 2005.

His research is focused on the molecular analysis of bifidobacteria, as well as the diversity and host significance of the gut microbiota.

Project with KitoZyme

This has involved the evaluation of the potential prebiotic features of chitin-glucan toward bifidobacteria under in vitro conditions, the identification of the genetic arsenal involved in the metabolism of chitin-glucan by bifidobacteria and the identification of the prebiotic features of chitin-glucan toward bifidobacteria under in vivo conditions in a murine/rat model.
