From 2006 to 2008 we at KitoZyme built a leading-edge 4,000m²-production area and a separate 150m²-cGMP unit that is divided as described below:

• a class 10.000 (ISO 7) production floor of 80 m²: the clean room
• a class 10.000 (ISO 7) filling room of 10 m²
• a class 100.000 (ISO 8) laundry of 10 m²
• a QC laboratory of 40 m² located in a grey zone.

The production facilities are made up of various different key areas. These include three production lines (chitin and chitin-glucan, chitosan, derivatives of chitosan), a flexible clean room, an extensive storage area and a testing and a QC Laboratory.

The platform is extremely flexible. That is to say that each production line and even the clean room can be enlarged depending on the needs of production, customers’ requirements etc. For instance, technical upgrades have been studied in order to be able to manufacture under GMP rules in all of the production facilities.

Another unique feature is that two production lines are suitable for the production of different ingredients: for example, ingredients that are extracted from different biomass or ingredients with higher or lower molecular weights.

This entire industrial and technological platform was designed based on an extensive know-how in vegetal biopolymers and processing and benefits from such state-of-the-art production tools as a mixer, plate and press filters, spray and flash dryers.
