Feed-approved fungal chitosan for animal health and nutrition

HEALTH & CARE Domain

Develop your next animal health formulation with a feed-approved fungal chitosan grade designed for renal health, joint care, skin and coat formulations.

The Challenge

Animal nutrition and veterinary formulation are evolving. Pet food manufacturers, veterinary health companies and functional feed formulators require ingredients that are regulatory-compliant.

The demand is for natural, well-characterised alternatives, ingredients with a clear mechanism of action, traceable origin and adaptability across companion and production animal applications.

Our solution & ingredient

Our ingredients

  • KitOfeed™

Feed-approved cationic biopolymer for companion and animal health

KitOfeed™ is a fungal chitosan derived from Aspergillus niger. As a feed-approved ingredient, it is designed for use in companion animal supplements, veterinary health products and functional feed formulations.

    Recommended applications

Kidney health: Supports renal health by adsorbing toxins, protecting against oxidative stress and improving overall renal function. Indicated in formulations targeting renal support in cats and dogs.
Joint health: Reduces joint pain, promotes cartilage production and protects joints. Relevant to mobility and joint support formulations for companion animals.
Skin & coat care: Soothes skin irritations, accelerates healing, combats fungal infections and moisturises the skin and coat. Suited to oral and topical products targeting integumentary health.
Digestive health: Fights harmful bacteria, promoting beneficial bacteria and nourishing the intestinal flora. Supports gastrointestinal balance in companion and production animal formulations.

    Key benefits

THE SCIENCE BEHIND KitOfeed™

The science
behind KitOfeed™

Mechanism of action

Fungal chitosan’s unique cationic structure enables multiple modes of action. It can interact with undesirable microorganisms, bind certain compounds in the digestive tract, and contribute to antioxidant protection through metal ion chelation.

Its natural film-forming capacity promotes prolonged contact with mucosal surfaces, supporting efficacy in digestive health and other surface-related applications.

Feed approval and manufacturing

KitOfeed™ fungal chitosan is produced to meet the quality and traceability requirements applicable to animal nutrition ingredients. Manufacturing is conducted under HACCP-controlled conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Find clear, science-backed answers to common questions about our fungal biopolymers, applications, regulatory compliance, and formulation integration.

All questions
  • Yes. The feed-approved status of KitOfeed™ covers both companion animal and production animal applications. Formulation parameters and recommended use levels may vary by species and target indication.

  • KitOfeed™ is positioned primarily across renal health support and joint health. Skin and coat care and digestive health represent additional territories with documented biological relevance.

  • Feed-approved status confirms that KitOfeed™ fungal chitosan has been assessed for use as a feed additive or feed ingredient in compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks for animal nutrition. This status allows formulators to incorporate it in companion animal supplements, veterinary health products, and functional feeds intended for commercial use.

  • Fungal chitosan is derived from the cell walls of Aspergillus niger, not from crustacean shells. This origin ensures a consistent molecular profile, non-crustacean traceability, and compatibility with formulations where allergen-free or vegan-friendly positioning is relevant. KitOfeed™ is produced under HACCP-controlled conditions.
